Eighteen nurses have completed the Breastfeeding Counselor Certification Course and passed the exam. These nurses have gone above and beyond to learn more about breastfeeding to enhance the success of our breastfeeding families.
The training of staff is important in educating mothers to not only increase their breastfeeding knowledge and skills, but also to influence their attitudes toward breastfeeding. Educating patients on breastfeeding during the intrapartum period is extremely time sensitive. Intrapartum breastfeeding education focuses on immediate issues such as fostering appropriate latch and positioning, adequate milk transfer, stability of the infant, and comfort of the mother. It also gives an opportunity to reassure and support a concerned mother or family member, provides them with referral information, and allows reinforcement of success or potential problems in the first few days after discharge.
