There’s a reason HMSL has been known to lead the system in hand hygiene efforts – we make it fun and keep it top of mind for employees as well as patients and visitors. Here’s a recap of our Hand Hygiene Program and how it has played a role in our success:
Secret Shopper
- HMSL had only one fallout in 2016, and went 11 months without a fallout
- HMSL recently had two fallouts in 2017, and only 3 total since January 2016
- Majority of 2016 and 2017 HMSL was leading the system in the least amount of fallouts
Kudos Cards
- In 2016, over 1,000 cards were submitted
- RN’s, PCA’s played a key role
- Submissions were also received by Housekeeping, Food Services, PT/OT
- To date, over 800 cards have already been submitted in 2017
- Every unit continues to have submissions
- Every role type, including case management, cath lab and students, have submissions
- Most active month in both years has been March
- Generally well liked by staff
- It is here to stay
My Rounding Tool
- My Rounding is an optional tool that can be used internally by Secret Shoppers
- Interns used this tool as a project to determine fallouts
Videos
- Patient Video is on CCTV, channel 5 for viewing every 5 minutes
- Staff Video is on LMS-Focal Point Review for both clinical and non-clinical staff
OVERALL
- We’ve seen an improvement in hand hygiene due to increased awareness from the additional signage and dispensers placed throughout the hospital, videos in patient rooms and Focal Point Review, along with the programs like Kudos Cards. We look forward to seeing the roll out of Forward Thinking and how it affects our hand hygiene compliance.
