April 17, 2017: Did you know that knowledge and efficiency are outcomes of patient and family centered care? When the staff nurse leader, interprofessional team, patient and family collaborate and coordinate the patient’s care, knowledge increases and care is efficient. The right patient receives the right care at the right time. Coordination and Collaboration both require excellent communication skills. Without excellent communication, efficiency and knowledge suffer. George Bernard Shaw once said “the single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” This is my challenge to you, be mindful of how you coordinate and collaborate patient care and verify that what you have communicated is actually what the other person heard. Thank you for all that you do!
