July 17, 2017: I hope you are still feeling the energy and excitement from our Magnet site visit last week. I wanted to share the appraisers’ comments about our organization.
The appraisers noticed several themes and gifts:
- Theme 1: Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is a family. They heard this comment in every meeting they attended and witnessed it many times.
- Theme 2: We are a team! Teamwork is apparent at every level in the organization.
Gifts we give our patients:
- Gift 1: We give the gift of service. They mentioned several stories, such as the nurse who made authentic egg rolls for a patient who was finally able to eat and was hungry for real egg rolls. Another story came from the OR where a nurse bought 8 t-shirts for a special needs patient because the patient’s t-shirt had to be cut off of her.
- Gift 2: We live out our I CARE Values. The appraisers were overwhelmed at how our I CARE Values are a part of our culture.
The appraisers asked us to give ourselves some gifts:
- Gift 1: Give yourself the gift of professional development – never stop learning and growing
- Gift 2: Appreciate what you have! HMSL is a special place to work and there are not many others like it. Appreciate all that you have and live a life of gratitude.
