June 19, 2017: Here are some tips for talking to our Magnet appraisers:
- Introduce yourself and give your full name and your role, e.g. “My name is Maria Gordon and I’m an ICU staff nurse and Magnet champion for Brazos ICU. It’s a pleasure to meet you!”
- Be proud of your unit/department and the great work you are doing. A great attitude and smile are worth their weight in gold!
- When introducing co-workers, use their full names and their role in the unit/department, e.g. “This is Julie Pickle and she is the interprofessional Magnet champion and manager of inpatient physical and occupational therapy.”
- Speak up! Be excited about the great work you are doing. Initiate the conversation.
- Describe your unit/department’s patient population.
- Describe what you are most proud of here at HMSL.
- Praise your co-workers and manage them up.
- Demonstrate the I CARE values at all times.
