September 25, 2017: We are a Magnet® hospital! I hope you were able to join us September 20th when we received the phone call from the American Nurses Credentialing Center granting us our first Magnet designation. During that phone call Brian Selig, DNP, MHA, RN, CEN, NEA-BC, a member of the Magnet® Commission Executive Committee informed us that we also received four exemplars!
Exemplar 1: Transformational Leadership – Our interprofessional team, led by Janet Leatherwood, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing officer, was able to reduce the hospital onset Clostridium Difficile rate, as well as the cost, thereby improving patient safety.
Exemplar 2: Structural Empowerment – HMSL is recognized for their community health outreach on many levels! Several examples cited by Selig include our Community Baby Shower, our organizational support for I CARE in Action, and our Cancer Center outreach.
Exemplar 3: Exemplary Professional Practice – HMSL received recognition for outperforming all metrics of our RN Satisfaction Survey! This speaks to our practice environment and living out our I CARE values.
Exemplar 4: Exemplary Professional Practice – HMSL was able to demonstrate that we outperformed all eight quarters for core measure VTE 5, venous thromboembolism discharge instructions.
