How does your unit/department effectively help new employees transition to their new role?
An effective way is through the preceptor role. Preceptors are skilled practitioners and employees who supervise and provide opportunities for new employees to combine evidence-based practice, knowledge and skills in their new practice setting. Preceptors provide an optimal learning experience to help bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and the clinical setting.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land hospital has recognized the importance of the preceptor role and provides education and training to nursing preceptors to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to facilitate new nurses’ role transition. We are grateful for each employee and practitioner who helps onboard and train our new employees. You are a key to our success!
