February 27, 2017: The next few weeks I want to focus on the Professional Practice Model (PPM) and how it supports our practice at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital (HMSL). It is my goal that nursing and interprofessional staff will understand and be able to explain the PPM, especially when the Magnet® appraisers arrive for our site visit.
The PPM is a framework that depicts nursing and interprofessional practice and is designed to advance nursing’s mission to provide an environment in which excellence in nursing practice, interprofessional collaboration, leadership, education and research ensure that patients, families and the community experience compassionate, value-based care through unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation. We will work our way through each component of the model and identify how it is alive and well at HMSL.
The first component of the PPM is our I CARE values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence. These values are the overarching umbrella that guide our decisions, practice and how we treat everyone. Take a moment to review the PPM graphic with your unit/department and I look forward to exploring the rest of the PPM components with you in the weeks to come.
