Magnet Mondays – Quality

April 10, 2017: This week we continue to explore the outcomes of Patient and Family Centered Care as depicted in our Professional Practice Model, focusing on Quality.  Houston Methodist Sugar Land hospital reports and nationally benchmarks nursing sensitive indicators, such as falls with harm, hospital acquired pressure ulcers stage 2 or greater, central line associated blood stream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, venous thromboembolism, elective cesarean section avoidance, clostridium difficile, and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus among others.  For every hospital acquired infection, fall or adverse outcome, there is a patient life and story that is impacted.  These incidents also impact the financial health of our organization as we do not receive reimbursement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.  Quality and Safety go hand-in-hand and it is our great privilege and responsibility to keep our patients safe while yielding the best quality outcomes.
