May 22, 2017: The final three foundations of the Professional Practice Model that support our practice are Service and Quality, Practice Standards and Financial Stewardship. The Houston Methodist Experience is a culture based on our I CARE values, providing unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation through personalized service. We do this through AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explain & thank), using positive language, hourly rounding, leader rounding, bedside shift report and discharge phone calls. Through this personalized service, we also provide quality care as we come to know each patient’s needs. Each of us also incorporates our professional practice standards so that patients receive evidence-based care. An example of this is doing away with bath basins and instead using CHG bath clothes. The literature shows that bath basins harbor bacteria and contribute to infections. This practice has reduced surgical site infections which contributes to the financial wellbeing of our organization. Surgical site infections cost on average $20,785 (Zimlichman, et al. 2013). As we prepare for our Magnet site visit, create a mental list of how practice standards are incorporated into patient care in your unit/department. Have you experienced improvements in patient satisfaction and the quality of patient care because of this? How has this affected the financial wellbeing of your unit/department?
