What is the Spiritual Care team most proud of?
- We are proud of the quantity and quality of patient interventions and the support we provide our HMSL family, with our staff and volunteers averaging more than 10,000 Spiritual Care Interactions each quarter
- Schwartz Rounds are offered every two months. This is a facilitated lunch discussion on topics related to staff self-care
What are some of your team’s accomplishments?
- We have many staff care initiatives for day and night shifts, such as weekly prayer with various departments, weekly prayer time in the chapel on Wednesdays, Tea for the Soul offered to several departments at night by our night Chaplain
- Supporting HMSL during the Epic transition
How does the Spiritual Care team partner with nurses and interprofessionals to provide unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation?
- Chaplain Carlos Jones provided an effective integration of spiritual care by daily prayer emails for staff on Brazos 5 and 6
- Innovative implementation of PRN Chaplains to assist patients with Advanced Directives
- Inspire and prepare new employees in all departments to understand and use I CARE values from Day 1 of employment
How does the Spiritual Care team have a voice in their practice?
- Each team member has a regular meeting time with the Spiritual Care Director, Tim Madison
- Monthly staff meetings
- Leadership has an open-door policy
- Decisions are shared between staff and leadership
