Stephanie A. Williams, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, AOCNP is an oncology advanced practice nurse with more than 20 years of experience working with cancer patients in radiation oncology, surgical oncology and bone marrow/stem cell transplant. She also has experience in the development of survivorship care plans. In the role of Oncology Nurse Navigator at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, Stephanie’s focus will be on the navigation of patients with thoracic, GI-CRC and prostate cancers.
Stephanie’s role includes serving as patient advocate for patients with the aforementioned diagnoses at any point along the care continuum (suspicion, newly diagnosed, in active treatment and as needed when treatment has been completed). Serving as a “care partner,” she will help to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment, while providing education and required assistance. She’ll also help patients make timely decisions about their treatment and coordinate with the physicians involved in each patient’s treatment.
“When a patient receives a new diagnosis of cancer, the world as they know it changes forever,” says Stephanie. “They need to know there is someone available who understands their specific situation, and who can guide them through what can be a very confusing time.”
Stephanie will also be responsible for building relationships with community partners and educating the community on cancer-related topics, including assisting with screening and prevention activities and facilitating related support activities.
