ational Volunteer Week • April 10 – 16, 2016
In recognition of National Volunteer Week Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital would like to pay tribute and honor to the 200 volunteers that give of their time and talents to our hospital. Volunteers are a vital part of the health care team because they provide additional services in our patient care units, and minister through our Spiritual Care Department. Volunteers take on many important roles every day that help advance our organization. Volunteers choose to make a difference at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
Hospital Volunteer Program
- Greet, direct and escort guests
- Assist patients who may need a wheelchair
- Track wheelchairs, keep an adequate supply at front entrances
- Deliver e-greetings to patients
- Provide information to guests
- Remind staff about the importance of hand hygiene
- Assist with administrative processing on the units/departments
- Assist with special projects such as mail-outs, career and education fairs
- Provide Pet Therapy to patients, families and staff through the Faithful Paws Program
- Extend a hand and a kind word of hope to a family as they anxiously wait for an update
- Give a simple smile to brighten one’s day
Volunteer Ministry Program
- These volunteers provide a listening ear and give comfort to hospital patients experiencing distress or requesting spiritual support.
Team Clarity Delirium Program
- Elderly Patient Visitation and Engagement
- Provide information to patients and families to prevent delirium
- Engage with patients and families to increase spirits and mood
- Provide sensory items for a comfortable stay (hearing amplifiers, reading glasses and puzzle book)
- Provide information to senior community resources and agencies
Our volunteers will be honored at a “Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon” on Wednesday, April 13 at Sugar Creek Country Club.
