We held the Winter 2017 Preceptor Award with Leadership Skills (PALS) recognition ceremony to honor five preceptors who were recognized for excellence.
The Professional Development Council created this award to celebrate preceptors who demonstrate excellent clinical skills, teamwork, role modeling evidence-based practices, and the I CARE values. Preceptors are the backbone of our organization!
A preceptor is a nurse who teaches, supports, counsels, coaches, evaluates, serves as a role model and aids in the socialization to a new role and these preceptors are all comfortable providing honest feedback as they role model the clinical, service, financial, and I CARE behaviors that exemplify the Houston Methodist Sugar Land nurse. PALS award nomination forms are available in all departments and on the intranet. Nominations are received twice a year and each HMSL department selects their preceptor honoree.
The recipients are:
• Robyn Capistrano, BSN, RN, CVRN-BC (Med Surg)
• Rachel Bullard BSN, RN (Perioperative, Cath Lab, and Imaging Nursing)
• Maria Cuesta, BSN, RN, CVRN-BC (ICU)
• Breanna Smith, BSN, RN, CEN (ER)
• Maria Sombillo BSN (Childbirth Center )
I invite each department to share a photo and information about the winner from their department on Chris’ Corner to show why they achieved this award.
