May is Better Hearing and Speech Month. This year, the theme is “Communication: The Key to Connection.”
This annual event celebrated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of speech therapists and audiologists in providing life-altering treatment for those who experience problems with swallowing, speaking, understanding, or hearing.
President Ronald Reagan, who suffered from hearing loss, formally proclaimed the month of May as Better Hearing and Speech Month on May 21, 1986.
