CMRT Tung “Mark” Tran prevented injury to a patient who had a peripheral stent in one of his arms. The patient had received an MRI safely on our 1.5T machine, and was brought down, pre-sedated, for another MRI on our new 3T machine (not safe for stents). The patient had indicated, and then reconfirmed, no “cardiac stent” on the check list, which had been reviewed by the nurse, and then by Mark.
However, Mark reviewed the prior MRI tech notes, and found documentation of the stent. He re-interviewed the patient, and confirmed the presence of the peripheral stent. He canceled the 3T exam, and then had the patient scheduled as a “to follow” on the 1.5T machine, which was currently occupied. It was already about 10:30 p.m., close to end of shift, but Mark stayed late to get that patient done. Much kudos to Mark for protecting patient safety, and going the extra mile by staying late to get the sedated patient done the same day.
