We are proud to announce that the 2018 Houston Methodist Sugar Land DAISY Team Award goes to the superteam of ED, Childbirth Center, Respiratory Care, Spiritual Care, Guest Relations and Security. These departments collaborated beautifully to comfort and support a distraught family who experienced the loss of a loved one.
The nomination we received says…
Dear Mr. Siebenaler,
My name is Detective Scott Minyard. I am a robbery/homicide detective with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. On Monday, Aug. 27, 218, I was called to the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital on the report of a 4 month old infant, brought to the emergency room by her parents. The child had been found by her mother and was unresponsive. Despite extensive efforts at resuscitating the child, she expired.
While I arrived after the child was pronounced DOA I was able to observe the extraordinary efforts made by the nurses, patient liaison workers and others as they consoled the parents and took care of the couple’s three children. The mother of this child was quite frankly inconsolable and in shock over the sudden and unexpected loss of her child. The staff, I personally witnessed, were unstoppable in their efforts to care for and console the family. These efforts went on for hours and I never saw them tire or cease in their care to this family. They simply went above and beyond.
After the incident I reached out to Kelly Ward who provided me with a complete list of the personnel who also took part in this incident.
Please express my admiration to your staff for their efforts and professionalism. I know that in the world of emergency medicine, law enforcement and firefighting this is the norm and not the exception however; I will not soon forget what I saw.
