Welcome to the 2016 Hurricane Season!

June 1 marked the beginning of the 2016 Hurricane Season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (also known as NOAA) is predicting a near-normal Atlantic hurricane season this year with a 70% likelihood of 10 to 16 named storms, but forecast uncertainty in the climate signals that influence the formation of Atlantic storms are making the predictions for this season particularly difficult. In addition, “El Nino” is dissipating, which favors more hurricane activity during the peak months, August through October. Preparing for the worst can help to keep you out of harm’s way. With the most recent rains and flooding in our area, there is definitely an increased awareness for the small steps you can take to help save lives when disaster strikes.

For at home preparedness, take steps today to be prepared:

  • Develop a family communication plan.
  • Build an emergency supply kit for your home.
  • Make sure that you and your family know your evacuation route.

For at work preparedness:

  • Be familiar with your work unit’s emergency preparedness plan
  • ALWAYS keep your contact information updated in MARS. See your management team if you need assistance with this.

As the premier hospital in the Fort Bend community, our dedicated staff will be ready to respond to any situation!
