Join your colleagues in support of the 7th Annual I CARE in Action Week benefitting the Houston Food Bank and the Montgomery County Food Bank beginning September 28. This year, Houston Methodist will host a systemwide food drive to help address the growing food insecurity in the community. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented economic challenges to southeastern Texas and has resulted in a surge of newly food insecure households increasing food insecurity from 1.1 million pre-COVID to a current 2.75 million people across the 18 counties serviced by the Houston Food Bank and Montgomery County Food Bank.
What is Food Insecurity?
Food insecurity is an economic and social indicator of the health of a community and is defined as limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods or uncertain ability to acquire these foods. Poverty and unemployment are frequently predictors of food insecurity and it is associated with chronic health problems in adults including diabetes, heart disease, mental health issues and more.
