JUNE 2, 2023 — Labor and Delivery nurse Bernie Reyes is the 35th HMSL recipient of the DAISY award. She was nominated by more than one patient for her extraordinary care. Here is what they said about her:
- I was a patient in the antepartum department for a good while. She was one of the 3 nurses that stood out to me. She went above and beyond for me to make my stay at the hospital comfortable and safe. She always checked on me with the best attitude. She was sincere and attentive to my care. I will never forget the care that she shown to me. I was happy that she was part of my care team from the first time I was in there until delivery day. She was even there after my delivery since I was sent back to the antepartum floor after my c-section. She was there for me from the beginning to the end. She truly was a gem to me.
- I spent 16 days at the hospital, and it was always a pleasure to have her as my nurse. She made sure my stay was as comfortable as possible from providing aromatherapy scents, coloring books, and asking if I wanted to have a musician come and visit my room. She contacted IT when my app wasn’t allowing me to order food from my MyChart app and followed up with them the next time she was my nurse a few days later. She was always chipper, friendly, and always checked in on me. She and other L&D nurses threw me a baby shower before my c-section, which really touched me and my husband. During discharge took the time to go over all my medication, when to take them, made sure that I knew if and when to come back to L&D in regard to my c-section incision and blood pressure, when I needed to follow up with my doctor, and answer any questions my husband and I had. I would highly recommend Methodist Sugar Land maternity ward to my friends because of the great nurses like her.
Bernie was surprised by her team in the Labor & Delivery Unit, who celebrated her along with senior leadership. DAISY Award honorees personify Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s remarkable patient experience. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.
Thank you and congratulations, Bernie!
