5 Resilience Skills

Recently, Mary L. Harris, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Clinical Education and Magnet Program Director and Maureen Lall, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, COHN-S, SCRN, Neuroscience & Spine Center Director presented results from a research study on resilience in the workplace.

The study was based on survey responses received from hospital staff at HMSL, HMB and HMCL and was conducted as part of the third objective in our strategic plan, which focuses on being the workplace of choice. Below are some important insights from their work.

Resilience is defined as the ability to bounce back or cope successfully despite substantial adversity (Rutter, 1985). The literature indicates that the hospital workplace environment is increasingly stressful, and staff often struggle, leading to burnout. Below are five steps for coping with stress and cultivating resilience.

Thank you, Mary & Maureen, for your hard work and dedication to the well-being of our staff!
