I am so proud and excited to announce that six Houston Methodist hospitals have been recognized as top performers in the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership annual rankings from Vizient. Our hospitals are recognized in different categories for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care. The measures include safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness and equity. Vizient’s Quality and Accountability study has played an important role in our overall improvement over the years, as it provides a valuable tool to help gauge where we are and where we need to be. Rankings include:
- Houston Methodist Hospital: Ranked # 6 out of 107, Comprehensive Academic Medical Centers
- Houston Methodist Sugar Land: Ranked # 2 out of 127, Large, Specialized Complex Care Medical Centers
- These hospitals are ranked in the Complex Care Medical Centers category out of 148 hospitals:
- Houston Methodist The Woodlands: Ranked # 1
- Houston Methodist Baytown: Ranked # 2
- Houston Methodist West: Ranked # 3
- Houston Methodist Willowbrook: Ranked # 6
What a tremendous showing for our hospitals! The recognition period for these awards was at the same time as our two most severe surges of COVID-19 patients. We managed to continue offering our patients the highest-level safety and quality while dealing with two major waves of COVID-19 patients. This is a testament to your commitment to truly being unparalleled.
Earlier this week, I presented a keynote address at the Vizient conference about the role culture plays in our success. It’s the foundation for everything we do, and that culture begins and ends with you. I spoke about the six simple words of our Vision for the Second Century: unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation. I also spoke about our philosophy that “when you focus on the fundamentals, the awards will follow.” Well, they have! When we are recognized for excellence in quality, it is something we should be very proud of accomplishing together. Congratulations, and thank you for always keeping the patient at the center of everything you do!
