OCTOBER 6, 2022 — For more than two years, we’ve been asked to do our part in the fight against a global pandemic. Just as COVID-19 has allowed us to catch our breath for the moment, our national economy goes haywire with high inflation creating a new stressor for many of us. To help ease any burden higher prices may be placing on you and your family right now, I’m excited to announce that all eligible Houston Methodist employees will receive a $500 gift card to H-E-B.
At Houston Methodist, we also pride ourselves on going outside our walls to offer a helping hand to those in need. In honor of our hard-working faculty physicians and executives, we are making a $400,000 donation to the Houston Food Bank and a $100,000 donation to Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program in their name. This gift will help our neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity during these difficult times.
I hope this gift card helps alleviate some of the financial strains that may be worrying many of you. The gift cards will be distributed the week of Oct. 24, and you’ll hear much more about this in the coming weeks.
I’ve described Houston Methodist as a family many times before. We work together for our patients. We gather to celebrate our accomplishments and milestones. When times are tough, we work hard and get through it together. And when we can help one another, we do. This is our way of helping those who are struggling a bit with rising household expenses.
As we considered what we could do for our employees, we started out thinking of something fun and creative—something unique. But when it came down to it, what was clearly important was to help where help is needed most. Some might use the gift card for food, others gas and even personal items. This won’t solve all of our problems, but hopefully it makes life a little easier for you and your family.
As health care workers, we all know the importance of taking care of ourselves. We must be in good shape – both physically and mentally – if we are going to offer our patients unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation. It’s my hope that this gift card helps you nourish yourself and your family and also offers you some peace of mind during these tough financial times. After all, we’re a family, and we need to look out for each other.
