Above and Beyond Award Winner: Maria Garica Soto

MARCH 18, 2022 — The Employee Morale Committee awarded Maria Garcia Soto with the Above and Beyond Award for March.

The award is given based on nominations from other employees when someone is seen going above and beyond for a patient or co-worker. The Employee Morale Committee collects them via email as well as monitoring Bravo.

Here is what a co-worker said about Maria:

“Your unwavering support for ensuring all of HMSL’s volunteers, giftshop employees, and our student interns were compliant with their COVID boosters before the deadline was an amazing feat! Your ability to track everyone down on campus and off to ensure their proof of booster was submitted for everyone who reports to Volunteer Services and your support for compliance was exceptional, and we appreciate all that you do for our hospital.”

Congratulations, Maria!

Do you know a HMSL employee that should be recognized for going above and beyond? Here is a bit about how to nominate and what the committee is looking for:

  • How does the committee receive nominations?
    • Anyone can submit a nomination to the committee — employees, management, other departments, etc… and even the public!
    • You can email HMSLEmployeeMoraleCommittee@houstonmethodist.org
    • Sometimes the committee will reach out to Department Managers
    • Several times they have gotten them from Bravos! You can access Bravos in the MARS dashboard.
  • What is the committee looking for in selecting an employee to celebrate?
    • It can be how someone really went out of their way for our patients, or their families to ensuring that your coworkers had the support they needed to be able to have their lunch
  • How often does the committee do the award?
    • The award is presented once a month.
    • In certain instances and nominations, more than one person is awarded in one month.
  • Who is in the committee?
    • The Employee Morale Committee is a collective group from around the hospital.
    • The committee Chair is Michelle Smith from the Childbirth Center, and our committee members are:
      • Adolph Garcia – Facilities, Melodie Woodard – Wellness, Ashley Duggan – Wellness, Yasmin Patel – AOD, Jennifer Gillen – Main 5E, Abraham Philip – Pharmacy, Rose Sullivan – ICU, Rachel Leva – Childbirth Educator/Education, Eleanor Holmes – Marketing.
    • At this time, the committee is not actively recruiting new members.
