August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Breastfeeding is a special time between mother and baby, and it is a bond that can take time to establish. The first week in August is also considered World Breastfeeding Week.
Immunization Awareness Month
National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of routine vaccination for people of all ages. Why are vaccines important? They help provide protection from infectious diseases and can lessen the severity of illness.
Health Unit Coordinator Week
August 23 – 29 is celebrated as Health Unit Coordinator Week. The National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC) states that Health Unit Coordinators are, “Referred to as the unit secretary, unit clerk, service specialist, and information coordinator.” Health Unit Coordinators also perform non-clinical functions within various hospital departments.
