Starting Tuesday, Nov. 17, HMSL will enable patients to order their meals directly through the MyChart app on their mobile device. Bridging these technologies will simplify the ordering process while ensuring patients receive the nutritionally-appropriate meal options, ultimately helping to decrease length of stays and increase patient satisfaction.
- After logging into their MyChart app, patients will be able to view a personalized daily menu, based on the provider’s prescribed diet and any noted allergies.
- Meal options are controlled by dietary nutrient limits and portion control.
- Patients can review descriptions of each item and view images to help in their selection.
- Patients can request meal service as soon as possible or set a preferred time.
The program launches for patients on all inpatient units on Nov. 17, with the exception of AOD, ER, Heart Center and PACU. MyChart meal ordering functionality will roll out to other Houston Methodist hospitals through the end of the year.
Nutrition and Food Services staff will provide menus and educational materials to patients to help them understand the new meal ordering process. Patients who don’t have a MyChart account or are unable or unwilling to use the app may continue to order meals by phone with food services. Food services staff will also be available to provide direct assistance as needed.
