Clergy visitors do not count against visitor policy

Patients’ clergy may visit without being “counted” against the patients’ visitor limit.

Why it’s important

Patients and visitors no longer have to worry about excluding a loved one to invite a member of the clergy for a visit. The patient’s clergy is often a significant contributor to the patient and family’s support system during hospitalization.

The fine print

  • Visiting clergy must check in with screeners, wear a mask, submit to a temperature check, and state whom they plan to visit
  • In cases when a clergy visit is not in the best interests of a patient, nursing leadership maintains the authority to delay that visit
  • Houston Methodist strongly encourages all visiting clergy to receive the COVID-19 vaccine
  • The Spiritual Care & Values Integration team is available if a consultation is needed
