Patients’ clergy may visit without being “counted” against the patients’ visitor limit.
Why it’s important
Patients and visitors no longer have to worry about excluding a loved one to invite a member of the clergy for a visit. The patient’s clergy is often a significant contributor to the patient and family’s support system during hospitalization.
The fine print
- Visiting clergy must check in with screeners, wear a mask, submit to a temperature check, and state whom they plan to visit
- In cases when a clergy visit is not in the best interests of a patient, nursing leadership maintains the authority to delay that visit
- Houston Methodist strongly encourages all visiting clergy to receive the COVID-19 vaccine
- The Spiritual Care & Values Integration team is available if a consultation is needed
