Houston Methodist Earns Forbes Diversity Ranking
Houston Methodist ranks seventh among health care organizations and No. 132 overall out of 500 organizations nationwide in Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity. This marks the first time Houston Methodist is included in the rankings.
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista in the sixth annual ranking that surveyed more than 45,000 Americans working for organizations with at least 1,000 employees. Participants anonymously rated their organization on criteria such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and LGBTQ+ equality, in addition to general diversity.
Each company’s diversity-related best practices, including the presence of employee resource groups (ERGs), publication of diversity data and the percentage of women in board and executive positions, were also incorporated into the rankings.
Patient Preferred Pronouns Viewable in Epic
The April 23 Epic Update enabled the ability to update and view a patient’s preferred pronouns through Storyboard. While it may seem easier to refer to patients by their appearance, it is important to recognize that gender is a spectrum, and we should not assume that someone’s personal pronouns are based on appearance. If a patient’s Epic record includes updated preferred pronouns, that information will be displayed on the patient’s Storyboard under their name.
For role-based instructions on adding pronouns in Epic, review the Capture a Patient’s Preferred Pronouns Using Storyboard tip sheet. For information on discussing preferred pronouns with patients, review the Showing Respect by Using Personal Pronouns document in the DEI Toolkit.
