Global Diversity Awareness Month

October marks Global Diversity Awareness Month. It’s a month to celebrate the beauty of ethnicities and cultures around the world. And it is a reminder of the positive impact a diverse culture of people can have on society. In the spirit of Global Diversity Awareness Month, how can you encourage diversity in the workplace? Below is a suggested Ted Talk from our trainers.

We’re taught to believe that hard work and dedication will lead to success, but that’s not always the case. Gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability and sexual orientation are among the many factors that affect our chances, says writer and advocate Melinda Briana Epler. She says it’s up to each of us to be allies for those who face discrimination. In this actionable talk, she shares three ways to support people who are underrepresented in the workplace. “There’s no magic wand for correcting diversity and inclusion,” she says. “Change happens one person at a time, one act at a time, one word at a time.” She also gives tips on how coworkers can work together to be better allies.

Together We Grow DEI Training Now Available for All Employees; Register Today in the LMS

All employees and physicians are welcome to participate in the new “Together We Grow” training course for 2021 from the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

This two-hour interactive session will promote dialogue and a general understanding among team members from different parts of the organization using a visual metaphor, open-ended questions and card activities. In addition, the session will serve as a foundational course for more in-depth conversations and training led by the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.
