Occupational Therapy Month
This year’s theme is Occupational Therapy (OT): Passion, Purpose, Possibility. Let us celebrate the profession that helps people across the lifespan to “live life to its fullest” by regaining their abilities to do daily activities after life-changing injuries or illnesses.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital (HMSL) has seven inpatient OTs and nine outpatient OTs that include five Certified Hand Therapists and one Certified Lymphedema Therapist. The Houston Methodist Hand Therapy Fellowship is the first and only American Occupational Therapy Association accredited Hand Therapy Fellowship Program in Texas and one of only eight accredited programs in the country.
“HMSL is incredibly fortunate to have a group of phenomenal Occupational Therapists! This amazing group of clinicians pours their heart and soul into what they do, routinely going above and beyond to provide high-quality, evidence-based treatment interventions for our patients,” says Sean Croft, PT, Director of Rehabilitation Services.
“Our occupational therapists play a vital role with hospitalized patients, assessing them and training them in activities of daily living, to enable them to better take care of themselves and hopefully return home,” says Julie Pickle, PT, Inpatient Rehabilitation Manager.
“Our hand therapists address the biomechanical issues of a multitude of upper extremity conditions. Specialized care is to optimize the functional use of the hand and arm. Our occupational therapists use an occupation-based and patient-centered approach to maximize goals and return our patients to their meaningful desired activities and function,” says Geri Sandoval, Outpatient Rehabilitation Manager.
Patient Access Week (Apr. 1-7)
Our team will celebrate Resilience Through Adversity: Evolving Patient Access to recognize the GREAT TEAM of Patient Access Services at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
In the face of our quickly changing health care environment, there is one constant: the Patient Access department. The first interaction patients have often begins with the Access department, which makes it so necessary to have a friendly face to connect with. Patient Access Week acknowledges the unique contribution patient access associates have on the patient experience. Patient Access associates are the first person patients and visitors encounter in a health care organization. Our dedicated staff members fill the roles of receptionists, registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, scheduling and PBX in the health care organization.
