Hurricane Laura

Updated as of 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 26

Hurricane Laura is now predicted to make landfall east of Beaumont. The Sugar Land area is still expected to see minor effects such as strong winds and some rain.

Previous calls to ride out team members to come early and spend the night have changed; if you are a ride out team member who is scheduled to work tonight or tomorrow morning, you can arrive to work as regularly scheduled. But if you want to spend the night as you planned, you are welcomed to sleep here, and you will still receive sleep pay.

As you make your way into work today and tomorrow, I highly encourage you to look at potential road closures to ensure a safe arrival.

Since we are now more certain that our area won’t be seriously affected, we plan to open all services and our medical office buildings tomorrow morning if they have not lost power. Be in touch with your manager for details on your schedule.

Full details are provided in Roberta Schwartz’s email. Thank you for your willingness to make the necessary preparations for this storm. Please keep the people who will be affected by Hurricane Laura in your thoughts and prayers.

Updated as of 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 25

To prepare for Hurricane Laura, we are canceling all scheduled cases, ancillary appointments and closing the medical office buildings Thursday, and are expecting to reopen on Friday.

Wednesday, Aug 26 Day Shift
Please plan on staying the night to relieve the night shift on Thursday morning in the event the Thursday shift is unable to safely arrive.

Wednesday, Aug. 26 Night Shift
For the safety of your arrival before the storm, please report to the hospital at 3 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 27 Day Shift
Please leave early to ensure your safe arrival and check for road closures. Notify your manager as soon as possible if you’re unable to get to work on time.

If you are planning on staying over, we ask that you do the following:

  • Bring your own bedding as linens will not be provided.
  • Bring a bag with a change of clothes and toiletries, including your mask and face shield if you have one.
  • Bring food.

For nonexempt employees who have been requested to come in early or stay the night, you will be paid for those hours even when you are sleeping. Due to COVID-19 safety issues, there will be no child or pet care for ride out team members or other employees. Feel free to use these resources as a back up plan.

More details are provided in Roberta Schwartz’s email. Thank you for your dedication to the safety and care of our patients.
