Earth Day was Saturday, April 22, and we want to take a moment to highlight our continuing commitment to our health and environments at Houston Methodist and beyond with the introduction of our Office of Sustainability, which is led by Jason Fischer, system director of Sustainability.
At this new office, we will research the objective connections among our health, our environment and our well-being in partnership with the Center for Health and Nature, while measuring and reporting the environmental impact of our operations and the progress made to reduce that impact.
While the Office of Sustainability is new to Houston Methodist, staff and leaders have continuously pursued pathways around sustainability. These pathways include energy efficiency projects, reusable sharps containers and compostable items in our cafeterias to name a few. We look forward to sharing our Pathways to Sustainability to showcase initiatives around sustainability throughout our hospital system as well as our roadmap and commitment to a more sustainable future for our employees, patients and communities.
As we continue our journey, we invite you to provide your feedback and questions by emailing sustainability@houstonmethodist.org. Please also look out for Dr. Marc Boom’s May president’s letter for more information on the Office of Sustainability.
