Magnet Mondays – Commit to Sit

May 13, 2019 – What comes to mind when you think about commit to sit? Commit to sit is born from the practice of being a healing presence for others.

James E. Miller and Susan C. Cutshall state in their book The Art of Being a Healing Presence, “Healing presence is the condition of being consciously and compassionately in the present moment with another or with others, believing in and affirming their potential for wholeness, wherever they are in life.”

Often we are caught up in the tasks of our professions, moving at the speed of light to get things done. Do we pause from our flurry of activity to really see our patients, colleagues, and guests? What would that look like and how would it feel?

For some, committing to sit and be present with our patients is just another task and one we don’t have time for. If we view being present with our patients as the most important gift we could give them, would we make the time?

Lucius Seneca, the ancient Roman philosopher stated, “Find a way, or make one.” I hope you will find or make a way to commit to sit and be present with your patients this week and discover what a difference it makes in your patient’s life, as well as yours.
