November 19, 2018: Last month 20 of our staff attended the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet® conference in Denver, Colorado. Here are some thoughts from Michelle Moreno-Lee, BSN, RN, Main 5 East clinical nurse and Betty Gonzales, DNP, RN, CCRN-K, ACNP-BC, Director Nurse Practitioner Program.
Michelle Moreno-Lee: I am proud and humbled to represent Houston Methodist Sugar Land as a Magnet Hospital at the 2018 Magnet Conference in Denver, Colorado! There are ONLY eight percent of hospitals throughout the US that achieve this magnificent Magnet designation! It is encouraging and motivating to know that HMSL is among the best of the best hospitals in the United States. I was proud to support the inspiring HMSL projects implemented in our hospital, which now inspire other RNs throughout the world. The conference allowed me to gain great insight regarding innovative technology, such as Leaf IMPACT digital patient monitoring system, a wireless wearable patient sensor that tracks patient repositioning and provides automatic mobility and documentation monitoring/information for RNs to effectively turn patients, reduce falls, and hospital acquired pressure injuries.
Betty Gonzales: As in previous Magnet conferences, I learned that nurses are incredibly resourceful and bright. It was beneficial to dialog with other organizations and learn how they are improving Observation Services as most organizations experience similar challenges. I also spoke with many interprofessionals from across the world who are working diligently to prevent hospital onset Clostridium difficile infections when they came to view the HMSL C. diff poster.
I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and let you know I’m grateful for each of you
– Janet Leatherwood, CNO.
