Magnet Mondays – Fixed Mindset

February 18, 2019 – This year the Magnet champions selected Mindset as their theme. Developing and cultivating your mindset can have a powerful impact on your present and future.

There are three common mindsets: fixed, growth and benefit. This week let’s focus on a fixed mindset.

A person with a fixed mindset is an everyday expert who seeks perfection and avoids failure. They focus on reproducing what they know and believe their strengths are innate gifts that can’t be developed. This person focuses on perfecting their abilities and performance. A fixed mindset leads to feeling threatened by another’s achievements.

The Magnet champions are working to identify areas where they have a fixed mindset and how they can move towards a growth and benefit mindset.

I encourage you to ask your unit/department Magnet champion for more information about how developing your mindset can benefit you, your team, patients, our hospital, and community.

Next week we will focus on what a growth mindset entails.
