November 5, 2018 – I was inspired by Cy Wakeman’s presentation at the 2018 Magnet conference. Cy asked all of us to consider what great would look like when confronted with problems or opportunities to improve. She pointed out that our minds cannot simultaneously help and criticize others. When we choose to act from our egos we miss the opportunity for self-reflection and finding solutions. Ego behavior includes judging, tattling, gossiping and venting. Ego behavior leads to workplace drama and workplace drama takes 2.5 hours away from our workday. That’s 816 hours per year per employee! Drama is emotional waste.
When we call each other to greatness, we also call each other to be accountable. Buy-in is each of our responsibility! Buy-in means I show up each day ready to work, in spite of an imperfect work environment. Accountable employees lead an organization to be innovative solution seekers.
When we stop judging and start helping each other, solutions will come quicker and drama will become extinct. Join me in committing to a drama-free work place where we choose to help more and judge less.
