On Sept. 6, Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital started offering MRI services to patients with pacemakers and other cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).
During the procedure, the patient’s vitals are continuously monitored by medical staff who have been specially trained in both MRI safety and cardiac device management. Following the MRI, the pacemaker or CEID is integrated to ensure that no damage to the device occurred during the MRI procedure and the patient’s original device settings are restored by the device vendor’s representative. Patients will need to have their device fully tested and reprogrammed to MRI-safe mode before entering the MRI room.
Please fax the order form and be sure to note that the patient has a pacemaker or CIED on the order form in the Special Instructions section.
