Throughout the month of August, we will be focusing on the first of the 3 main goals Chris talked about last week: Improving Patient Outcomes.
To help communicate the objectives of this goal, we broke it down into three subjects:
- Patient Progression
- Quality
- Patient Satisfaction
This week, Kelly Ward, Emergency Department Director, explains the importance of Patient Progression.
Patient Progression means getting the patient from the Emergency Department to their destination unit so their care can be completed and they can return home in a timely manner.
Efficient patient progression allows the hospital to continue to provide high-quality, safe care to our community.
The tactics we have implemented to improve the efficiency of Patient Progression are:
- Created a Bed Management Department which is solely focused on patient progression
- Implemented time expectations for handoff reports
- Improved transportation efficiencies
- Re-staffed based on patient need
What’s in it for you? You can have pride working for a high-quality, safe hospital.
Remember: Safe, efficient, timely care means happier patients!
