Four employees from each of the service lines (Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Inpatient Services and Outpatient Services) have been named as a “Star of the Month” in recognition for their commitment to our patients and I CARE values. These employees have been selected based on outstanding patient comments and feedback received. Each month we will alternate between featuring employees who received exceptional recognition from one of our various surveys (NRC Survey, RealTime, CONNECT Discharge Phone Calls, MyRounding) and employees who have been noted as going above and beyond through feedback from the Service Quality team and Guest Relations rounds.
We are excited to showcase and recognize the amazing hard work that our employees deliver to our patients on a daily basis. Thank you for being a part of our journey to unparalleled.
Jaroyal Teneal Steverson, PT – Outpatient
“This patient called the Guest Relations’ line to share about her great experience at PT. Ms. Moore said this morning she woke up and was in a lot of pain. She said, ‘I didn’t think I would be able to get my errands done for the day due to the overwhelming amount of pain’. She made it to her PT appointment and wanted to share about her ‘outstanding’ experience. She said this person ‘did such an outstanding service at handling my pain’, she ‘listened to it’ (her pain), and ‘took her time’.
The patient said when she left the house for the appointment that she was “crying” and by time the appointment was over she said she was feeling “80% better”. She said her day was completely turned around after the appointment and now she is at home cooking and being productive. Ms. Moore said, ‘I had to tell someone and I couldn’t let this go unnoticed’. ”
Khawar Yazdani, Cath Lab RN – Ambulatory Surgery
“The patient said that she previously had a terrible experience in a cath lab at another hospital, so terrible that she had a panic attack and they could not complete the procedure. So she was terrified to have to go again on in August. The patient said that when Khawar came to get her he noticed how scared she looked and comforted her and told her it was all going to be alright. She said that when she got down there he took the time to explain every little thing to her and stayed with her the entire time. She said that he even prayed with her, held her hand, and played her favorite gospel music to put her at ease. She said that he and John were awesome and absolutely wonderful! They went above and beyond and she appreciated them so much. She said she knows that everyone here says ‘my pleasure’ but when they said it you could tell they truly meant it. The patient said that they are angels of God! She was so moved by the care they gave her that she began crying while talking to me about them. She also said that she was brought here for an emergency and is out of network, but she had such a wonderful experience working with the case manager to change her insurance so she can be in network and be able to return in the future if ever needed. The patient said that she was so grateful for them, she wished she had the money to buy flowers for them!”
Karen Platt, Chaplain – Inpatient
“I wanted to share some feedback about Karen with you because I was really moved by the comments that a patient’s family gave me about how much her compassion really made a big difference to them during their time at HMSL with their mom. I did a round on a patient on 5W and who had just been moved from the Brazos ICU. The family said that their mother had a turn for the worse while in the ICU resulting in some brain damage making them realize that allowing their mom to pass peacefully was the best decision for them to make. Obviously, this time is very difficult for them however, they noted that they have been so moved by the compassion and kindness that Karen has shown them. The patient’s family said that Karen brought such a light to them during a very dark time in their lives. I was told that the one thing they are most grateful to HMSL for is the moments of laughter Karen has been able to rustle out of them during this sad time because they know their mom probably finds peace in hearing that. The patient’s family told me ‘This hospital seems to make kindness a requirement to even work here because everyone we’ve encountered so far has been so great to our family – but Karen…people like her is all the proof we need to be absolutely positive that God exists.’ The family was somber but seemed at peace when talking about their experience here. I wanted to let you know how much of a difference she is truly making and I can honestly say, colleagues like that make me proud to work at HMSL.”
Emily Foreman, RN – Emergency Department
“The nurse that cared for me was named Emily. She was great. She explained what she was going to do before she did it. She was excellent. RN was extremely helpful in taking charge of a patient trying to get out of the vehicle and into a wheelchair. The patient is an elderly man who needed a lot of assistance. There were two ladies trying to help the gentleman also but she directed them on what to do. I was also able to help but she stopped, put all of her stuff on the ground, helped as well as directed the family/friends in what they were to do. And all with a cheerful smile! Good job! Great care. Very happy with treatment and understanding.”
