May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and this upcoming week specifically (May 10-16) is Neuroscience Nurses week. We would like to honor and thank all our nurses who care for neurology and neurosurgical patients here at HMSL. Your knowledge and skills help to care for patients in some of their most critical times. Strokes are a neurological emergency that requires immediate care. They are the 5th leading cause of death, yet number one cause of preventable adult disability; for this reason the care by our interprofessional team, including our neuroscience nurses, is essential.
Our DNV Stroke Survey is fast approaching! DNV annually survey’s HMSL’s Stroke Program, and this year they are scheduled to be on campus on July 9 & 10. It is never too soon to begin to prepare, we encourage all staff to be aware of your required stroke education, as well as our hospital’s policy for stroke patients. Don’t forget, strokes can effect anyone at any time, so regardless of your position, it is essential that you are aware of the signs of a stroke-just remember BE FAST.
