Please stay tuned to weather forecasts this afternoon and evening into Tuesday morning as meteorologists track a tropical weather system in the Gulf of Mexico that’s expected to bring potentially heavy rains to the Houston area much of the coming week.
Day shift that is currently on campus should not leave until their relief has arrived. If you are scheduled to work tonight or Tuesday, please bring an overnight bag with you to work just in case your relief cannot make it in. Remember to pack:
- Your own bedding as linens will not be provided
- A mattress or cot
- A change of clothes and toiletries, including your mask and face shield if you have one
- Food and necessary medications
Tropical Storm Nicholas’ heaviest rains are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service is predicting widespread rainfall, with some areas receiving between 5 to 10 inches of rain and some spots possibly seeing up to 15 inches of rain.
Houston Methodist hospitals will remain open throughout Tropical Storm Nicholas. With all heavy rainfall events such as this, street flooding is anticipated in vulnerable areas. Right now, we don’t know exactly what areas will receive the heaviest rainfall, although early forecasts predict the heaviest rainfall will hit south and east of Houston.
