After much focus and hard work, we have achieved our goal of improving our Vizient Quality and Accountability survey results for 2021. As you can see from the accompanying chart, we improved across the Efficiency and Effectiveness domains, which is our patient progression, ED throughput and readmissions metrics.
Domain | 2021 Rank | 2020 Rank |
Overall | 4 out of 117 hospitals in our compare group | 2 out of 97 hospitals in our compare group |
Mortality | 6 | 2 |
Efficiency | 5 | 32 |
Safety | 3 | 1 |
Effectiveness | 41 | 53 |
Patient Centeredness | 40 | 16 |
Equity | 61 | 37 |
Overall Score | 72.37% | 74.35% |
Our improved scores are the result of your efforts, each and every day, to enhance our patient outcomes. I am proud of how we responded to this challenge across the hospital during these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the fundamental objectives of our strategic planning process for 2021 was improving our efficiency (patient progression and average length of stay), while sustaining our patient safety and quality metrics. It is gratifying to know that our physicians and staff have been so committed to this effort. The past 18 months have been extremely challenging, and even though some of our rankings showed some decreases, we still maintained a top 10% ranking, and are committed to improving our metrics to achieve unparalleled care for our patients.
In today’s complex regulatory and financial environment, we must constantly balance quality medical care, patient safety and efficiency/cost control to be successful. These results are concrete evidence that we are on the right track!
It’s important to stress, however, that we can’t rest on our accomplishments. It is vital that we remain committed to continuous improvement in patient outcomes, both for the safety and health of the people who entrust their care to us, and for the continued financial strength of our hospital.
Congratulations to all of you for your hard work and dedication! Let’s keep the momentum going!
