W-2 forms for the 2021 tax year are now available online for those who opted to receive the forms electronically. You may access it by going to MARS, clicking on the ‘Payroll and Compensation’ tile, and going to the ‘View W-2 Forms’ tab on the left-hand side. If you didn’t consent to online distribution, you will receive a hard copy of your W-2, which will be mailed by Jan. 31 to the address you have on file in MARS.
Although employees need the W-2 form to file a federal tax return, you can file your 2021 federal tax form without attaching a 1095-C form. When you receive the 1095-C form, keep it with your tax records in case you need to provide proof of medical coverage to the IRS. The 1095-C is required by the Affordable Care Act to document that employees and their dependents (if applicable) had qualifying health coverage in 2021.
